Located in Changsha, Central China s Hunan Province, the Hunan Museum is home to more than 180,000 cultural relics, most of which were found at a local historical treasure house - the 2,000-year-old Mawangdui Tombs, one of China s most significant archaeological discoveries of the 20th century.
The Hunan Museum, collaborating with the Institute of Archaeology under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, unearthed from three tombs dated to the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24) over 3,000 objects of refinement and artistry, such as lacquer wood wares, painted potteries, copper wares and silk clothes, among other types of antiquities.
