Facebook announced on Thursday that it would ramp up its efforts to counter misinformation about climate change.

Taipei, Feb. 19 (CNA) Social media platform Facebook on Friday extended its Climate Science Information Center to more countries, including Taiwan, to better educate users about climate change, its effects and the need for action.

Tech giant Facebook recently stated it plans to start adding information labels to posts about global warming that direct people to a "climate change information hub."  George Mason University, the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication, and the University of Cambridge will all contribute to Facebook's program of fact checking.

Facebook's information center about climate change has added a new section that disproves common climate myths. The information hub is also rolling out to additional countries starting today.

Facebook said Thursday it would expand its climate information hub and direct its users to experts to debunk myths and hoaxes in the field in a ramped up effort to fight misinformation. The social media giant said it has added a section to its climate hub that features "facts that debunk common climate myths" and will rely on climate communication experts from the George Mason University, the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication, and the University of Cambridge.
