AN ACCESS gate on the wall of a former church building in Yell was the subject of deliberation from Shetland Islands Council’s planning committee this morning (Wednesday). Councillors went with the recommendation to approve the retrospective consent, but added in a condition.

FRESH safety concerns have been raised over a ruined property in Yell which could be demolished after part of its internal wall appeared to have collapsed recently. The property in question is Linkshouse, a C-listed building which is currently the subject of a planning appeal to.
THE SCOTTISH Government has reiterated that a recent consultation carried out on ending the sale of peat does not extend to the cutting and use of peat for domestic heating. Responding to the consultation, the Scottish Crofting Federation (SCF) warned against the government.
