DENVER A woman who claimed Pueblo police violated her rights has agreed to drop her lawsuit in exchange for $50,000 from the city.
A statement from the Pueblo City Attorney s Office says the payment saves the city a lot of money in the long run. In order to save taxpayer money, the City Attorney decided to settle this case for less than half the costs of defense, according to the statement provided on Wednesday to The Pueblo Chieftain.
The case was in Denver at the U.S. District Court for Colorado.
A woman sued three officers who took part in her arrest in 2018 at the Pueblo Mall, alleging they failed to reasonably investigate a report of a disturbance and, instead, violated her constitutional rights. She claimed they unlawfully arrested her, used excessive force, did an unlawful search of her vehicle, prosecuted her maliciously and retaliated against her for objecting to their actions.
