Teachers union announces labor dispute over vaccines for school staff

The union says in a statement that if the issue is not resolved by January 12, it will suspend studies, including distance learning. Anti-Netanyahu bloc gains steam in latest Israeli election poll as Likud drops

5 The bloc of parties that has not ruled out sitting in a government led by Netanyahu – composed of Likud, Shas, United Torah Judaism and Yamina – would win 57 seats. Netanyahu s Likud still leads in the polls with 28 seats, one fewer than the previous poll. Sa ar s New Hope is the second largest party with 19 seats, followed by Yesh Atid-Telem with 16 seats and Yamina with 13. The Joint List of Arab-majority parties is projected to win 11 seats. Shas and United Torah Judaism are both projected to win eight seats. Yisrael Beiteinu is projected to win seven seats, while Kahol Lavan and Meretz are both expected to take five seats.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s expedient partnership with Benny Gantz collapsed on December 22 after seven months of mutual distrust and constant backstabbing and infighting. With the collapse of their national unity government, Israel was propelled into its fourth general election in two years. It will occur on March 23, amid a lingering coronavirus pandemic which has devastated the economy and killed 3,141 Israelis. The current government will remain in place until a new one is formed after March.

BICOM 23rd December 2020 What happened: The Knesset was automatically dissolved at midnight last night as the government missed its deadline to pass a budget. The election will be held on March 23, 2021. Both coalition partners blamed each other and traded recriminations. Prime Minister Netanyahu said, “This is an erroneous decision on Blue and White’s behalf, but if they force these elections on us, I promise you we will win. With your help, the people of Israel, Likud will bring a huge win.”  Netanyahu added: “I’m not afraid of elections… The Israeli public knows who has delivered millions vaccines, four peace agreements, who is stopping Iran, who has delivered security and who is going to rehabilitate the economy with greater momentum.”
