It’s Tel Aviv’s most famous boulevard, and over the years its fortunes have risen and fallen. Today it’s once again in the top spot as one of the city’s best streets to visit.

The tension that erupted again in the streets of Jaffa last week was not a result of the COVID-10 crisis or localized violence. What is provoking residents of this southernmost part of Tel Aviv to protest are long-term problems for which no solution is in sight: deliberate neglect, an absence of infrastructure, crime, and police violence and over-enforcement, along with a lack of opportunities and a reality in which veteran residents are being squeezed out of their homes.
The messages and discourse of the demonstrators are directly in synch with a new documentary, “The Guide to Gentrification,” which deals with various ongoing processes in Jaffa and the systems behind them. The series, created by filmmakers Osnat Trabelsi, Keren Shayo and Lavi Vanounou (and supported by the Rabinovich Foundation for the Arts and the Mifal Hapayis national lottery), is now being aired in three parts on Hot cab

After a decade-long revamp, Beth Hatfutsot Museum of the Jewish Diaspora, a mainstay of the Tel Aviv University campus, has reopened as ANU – Museum of the Jewish People. (Anu means “us” in Hebrew.) The only thing missing was a dedication, another casualty of the coronavirus crisis.
The museum contains an extensive exhibition on Jewish history and communities – from Iceland to the Philippines – not to mention the luminaries. It also displays works by Jewish artists, as well as contemporary and antique Judaica.
