Kampong Speu provincial police are searching for villagers who were part of a mob that beat up a drug addict who was accused of murdering a 68-year-old woman on May 31 in Ek Kapheap village of Kong Pesei district’s Prey Vihear commune. The mob who beat the man seriously injured him and he died as a result of those injuries one day later.
A soldier was held for questioning on March 24 shortly after fatally shooting one of the men who had just allegedly stolen his motorcycle in Prey Sar commune of Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district. District deputy police chief Cheang Hok Se said the deceased’s five alleged accomplices escaped when the soldier gave them a short chase in the early hours of March 24.

Court begins hearing of Rainsy, activists on incitement charges

The Phnom Penh Municipal Court began hearing the case of Sam Rainsy, former president of the Supreme Court-dissolved Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), and 21 alleged accomplices on charges of treason, incitement to cause social chaos and incitement of the military to engage in rebellion.
The hearing was held on December 29 under tight security conditions both inside the courtroom and outside the municipal court building.
Thirteen of the 22 defendants attended the hearing, while nine others remained at large after fleeing Cambodia to take up residence in various countries abroad.
