Yorktown Home of Historic Distinction: Huntersville s Morrison Manor

February 25, 2021 at 2:53 PM YORKTOWN, N.Y. – One of the most beautifully preserved Victorian houses in Yorktown is located on scenic Hunterbrook Road. Built in the 1890s as a country retreat for acclaimed stage actor Lewis Morrison, “Morrison Manor” was the setting for countless garden parties and picnics throughout the last years of the 19th century and early days of the 20th. The Yorktown Heritage Preservation Commission has recognized it as a Home of Historic Distinction. Morrison purchased the 25 acres for his future country seat in 1894. The property had once been the site of a shoe shop and factory run by Albert Wright, a cobbler who supplied shoes to Sing Sing Prison. After Wright’s death in 1882, his buildings on the grounds were razed, and by the time Morrison acquired the property, only a pastoral meadow and forest remained on which to locate his new home.
