Pick n Pay staff were on the receiving end of an earful from a woman who refused to wear a mask, saying it was unconstitutional. Yes, they still walk among us.
Kaunda Selisho 389 more people were killed in this quarter as compared to the corresponding period in the previous financial year, said Police Minister Bheki Cele. Police Minister Bheki Cele. Picture: GCIS
This is according to Police Minister General Bheki Cele who presented the quarterly crime statistics on Friday, reflecting crimes that occurred between 1 October 2020 and 31 December 2020.
“The national crime statistics from October to December 2020 do not paint a good picture, and hence force us as the Saps to dig deep and put the shoulder to the wheel.”
Cele explained that in truck and courier van robberies, the majority of the vehicles were targeted for their cargo, which usually consisted of items such as food, appliances and other pricey goods.
We’ve got a live one: Video footage of a shopper’s ‘mask meltdown‘ in a Pick n Pay store has gone viral this week, after the woman confronted staff and told them to remove their face-coverings. Her behaviour has prompted a demand online for the supermarket to take action against this unruly customer.
On Thursday, a clip of the incident had already been viewed thousands of times on Twitter. The woman is politely asked to put her mask on, but instead, launches into an inaccuracy-riddled rant about Constitutional rights. Not only does the shouting shopper defend her choice to go maskless, but she also demands that workers remove their PPE.

An earlier version of this story erroneously named G4S as the Cash-In-Transit vehicle targeted in the robbery. This is incorrect, and we apologise for the error. The vehicle, in fact, belongs to Fidelity.
