Chris Hipkins 'quite comfortable' with returnees jumping COVID-19 vaccine queue if first dose given overseas

A Ministry of Health spokesperson said the "small number of people who have returned to New Zealand and are partially vaccinated are being fully vaccinated where practicable". The spokesperson said it is "not easily accessible data" to determine where each of the 190 people would fit in the vaccine sequencing framework. In other words, the Ministry of Health cant say how many of them jumped the queue.  Hipkins said it makes sense to fully vaccinate them.  "I think its important that people ge...

United Nations Declaration: Indigenous rights consultation begins in wake of He Puapua controversy

National leader Judith Collins accused the Government of a "separatism by stealth" agenda, after plans were set in motion for a Māori Health Authority as well as Māori wards in local councils, both of which were recommended in the report.  Collins vowed to keep probing Labours Māori co-governance plans despite Newshub polling in May showing 44.5 percent of Kiwis thought National was being divisive and the Māori Party accusing her of racism. Paradoxically, the report was commissioned as a r...

RMA reform first look: Housing supply must be considered in planning, climate change 'managed retreat' takes shape

The Government plans to replace it with three new laws this parliamentary term but the overall process will take years. Below the NBA will sit the Strategic Planning Act (SPA) and the Climate Adaptation Act (CAA), to address complex issues associated with managed retreat. The draft legislation still needs to go before a parliamentary select committee process, where the public will be able to make submissions. A second select committee process will be held when the full draft law is introduced t...
