Dallas Arboretum kicks off first-ever Black Heritage Celebration

Though summer doesn’t officially begin until June 20, the Dallas Arboretum is marking the start of a Summer of Sculpture on Saturday, May 1, with the return of ZimSculpt, a display of Zimbabwean works of art. As a kick off to the three-month exhibition, the Arboretum is also introducing its inaugural Black Heritage Celebration Day, which will highlight Black artists, businesses, designers and entertainers throughout the day. “Our board, which includes African Americans, liked that we have a Hispanic Heritage Celebration and wanted to do the same with having a Black Heritage Celebration. It seemed fitting to tie it into the ZimSculpt exhibit with a blending of two cultures — African and African American,” says Linda Todd, Dallas Arboretum board member and Black Heritage Celebration chair. “By having this Black Heritage Celebration, those coming can be some of the first to see this amazing exhibit and tell their family and friends.”

Dwell With Dignity Host It's Second Thrifty Studio Live Showcase

Dwell with Dignity For over 10 years, Dallas-based nonprofit Dwell with Dignity has worked to provide furnishing and interior design to families that have previously experienced housing instability. Now, you can support the organization's vital work—and score some great deals on home decor in the process. This year, Dwell With Dignity is bringing back its popular Thrift Studio fundraiser—virtually. Dwell With Dignity has tapped Zara Taitt, a senior designer for Jan Showers, to create a high-design vignette that will be showcased online and at a pop-up location—with every item available for sale at steep discounts. As part of an initiative to bring more inclusivity into the interior design realm, all of the home decor featured in the vignettes will be from emerging designers of color, selected by celebrity interior designer Nikki Chu. 100 percent of proceeds from this showcase will go towards benefiting Dwell with Dignity’s goal of helping families experiencing homelessness.
