Ever since she took office in April as part of a mini cabinet reshuffle, Derya Yanik, Turkey’s minister for family and social affairs and the only woman in the cabinet, has been causing a stir among rights activists, from women’s groups to children rights advocates. The last straw came when the minister was quoted as saying that the increase in gender-based violence in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 was “tolerable” — a remark that sparked protests calling for the minister’s resignation outside her ministry’s local branches in Istanbul, Ankara and Diyarbakir May 25.

(Bloomberg) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan fired his trade minister in an attempt to mitigate the damage from growing accusations of widespread nepotism in the government.
Ruhsar Pekcan was sacked on Wednesday with a midnight decree by Erdogan after she allegedly favored her husband’s company in government tenders. The president named Mehmet Mus, a parliamentary whip of his ruling AK Party, as her replacement.

ISTANBUL, April 21 (Reuters) - President Tayyip Erdogan appointed a prominent member of Turkey's ruling AK Party, Mehmet Mus, as trade minister on Wednesday and split the Family, Labour and Social Policies Ministry into two ministries.
In a presidential decree Ruhsar Pekcan was replaced as trade minister by Mus, who has been a lawmaker for Erdogan's AK Party since 2011 and served as the party's deputy chairman in charge of the economy.
The decree, published in the Official Gazette, gave no reason for the change, but it comes after opposition politicians accused Pekcan's ministry of buying supplies from her family-owned company and called on her to resign.

ANKARA (Reuters) - President Tayyip Erdogan named a prominent member of Turkey's ruling AK Party, Mehmet Mus, as trade minister on Wednesday and split another ministry into two, in what officials said was the first move in an expected broader cabinet shuffle.
In a presidential decree Ruhsar Pekcan, the cabinet's highest-profile woman, was replaced as trade minister by Mus, who is close to former finance minister and Erdogan's son-in-law Berat Albayrak, a divisive party figure.

ISTANBUL — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Recep Erdogan began a long-rumored cabinet reshuffle Wednesday, dismissing two ministers and appointing three, with more high-level appointments expected in the coming weeks.
In a late-night decree, Erdogan fired Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan, who faced accusations of nepotism following a report Friday alleging she favored her spouse’s company in government tenders. According to the OdaTV news site, Pekcan directed the Trade Ministry to purchase 9 million liras' ($1.1 million) worth of disinfectants from two companies owned by her husband, Hasan Pekcan.
