We begin tonight in nepal where the police say more than 1,000 people are dead after the worst earthquake there in more than 80 years. The quake hit nepal, a small impoverished nation sandwiched between india and tibet in the himalayan mountains, around noon today. To give you a sense of just how strong this earthquake was, its magnitude of 7. 8 makes it 16 times more powerful than the earthquake that devastated haiti in 2010. Mount everest is in nepal, and the quake caused a deadly avalanche at the climbers base camp. Tens of thousands of people in nepal are now spending a chilly, stormy night out in the open.
