Tokyo Olympics: Amit Panghal to enter Games ranked number one in 52kg category
NEW DELHI : Pugilist Amit Panghal will be entering the Tokyo Olympics as the world number one in the men’s 52kg flyweight category.
In the rankings released by International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Boxing Task Force, Panghal has been ranked as number one and he is the only Indian Olympic-bound boxer to be ranked as number one.
Panghal had gone down fighting against the reigning Olympics champion Zoirov Shakhobidin in a hard-fought men’s 52kg final at the 2021 ASBC Asian Boxing Championships. As a result, the Indian boxer had to settle for a silver medal.

Dubai [UAE], May 31 (ANI): Indian women boxers signed off their ASBC Asian Boxing Championships 2021 campaign with 10 medals in Dubai on Sunday.
Boxer Pooja Rani successfully defended her title after outpunching in-form Mavluda Movlonova to clinch her second successive gold as Indian women ended its campaign with one gold, three silver, and six bronze medals.
The seasoned campaigner Mary Kom (51kg), Lalbuatsaihi (64kg), and Anupama (81kg) claimed silver medals after suffering narrow defeats in their respective finals.
While Simranjit Kaur (60kg), Lovlina Borgohain (69kg), Jaismine (57kg), Sakshi Chaudhary (54kg), Monika (48kg) and Saweety (81kg) are among the Indian women pugilists who secured bronze with semi-final finish.
