Expert: Emergency FMMO hearing lacks meaningful public input

With the National Milk Producers Federation requesting an emergency hearing from the US Department of Agriculture on changing the nation s milk pricing system, many in the dairy industry are wondering what can actually be done. A Hoard s Dairyman webinar featured a panel of FMMO experts offering their thoughts on what can and may happen with the emergency hearings and how to best go about it. Panel guests included Ed Gallagher, president of risk management for Dairy Farmers of America; Al Zolin, manager of dairy consulting firm Zolin International; Erin Taylor, acting director of order formulation and enforcement for USDA Agricultural Marketing Service; and Chris Wolf, an agricultural economist with Cornell University.

Ridgefield resident Fred Breekland, 85, has died

Ridgefield resident Fred Breekland, 85, has died Written by Kane Funeral Home On Sunday, March 7th, Fred Breekland passed away at the age of 85. He graduated with a degree in Pharmacy from Columbia University and a Masters in Chemical Engineering from Columbia School of Engineering. Fred went on to work as an executive for Esso Corporation and then Olin International. In the summers he was a champion sailor who raced Flying Scotts and his cruiser named Nose Job. Winters were spent on the ski slopes as ski patrol, first at Haystack Mountain and then Mt. Snow in Vermont. Fred was an avid reader, loving his morning Wall Street Journal and returning home from trips to the library with armloads of books. He was a devoted husband and father and if not racing or skiing could be found working in his yard and garden.
