Fresh concerns over AstraZeneca roll-out Posted: 10:16 am April 14, 2021

THERE are fresh concerns over the roll-out of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine here following a decision by the Irish government yesterday (Tuesday) to cancel immunisation clinics planning to use the drug there.
GPs and pharmacies across Fermanagh have been supplied with the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine for roll-out in the community while the vaccination centre at the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum is offering doses of the Pfizer drug.
The Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine has been dogged by problems and controversy ever since it was brought to market before Christmas.
However, the British Medical Association’s spokesperson in Fermanagh, Dr Brendan O’Hare, who has over 16,000 patients in his Western Rural Healthcare practice including GP surgeries in Ederney and Castlederg said he is “comfortable with the stance taken here.”
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson is visiting County Fermanagh this morning (March 12). Mr. Johnson landed at St. Angelo Airport around 11.30am and has just arrived at the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum in Enniskillen where the coronavirus vaccination campaign is taking place. He was greeted by health care staff at the rear entrance of the leisure centre. During his visit he is meeting with healthcare staff administering the vaccination programme and members of the public. He is joined by First Minister Arlene Foster, Health Minister Robin Swann, Chairwoman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Diana Armstrong and Baron Nigel Dodds MP.

THE COUNCIL is charging the Western Trust £5,000 a week, and local GPs hundreds per day, to use its buildings as mass vaccination centres.^
The Council has confirmed to the Herald that it is charging the Trust rent for its use of the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum and the Omagh Leisure Complex, which were both closed anyway as a result of Covid regulations, as bases to roll out its vaccine programme.
“As is the case for the use of any Council facility, a licence agreement between both parties has been agreed, with Land and Property Services agreeing a licence fee of £2,500 per week for use of each centre, with any overhead charges charged on the basis of actual costs incurred,” said a Council spokesman.
