The International Transport Workers Federation says a Fijian shipping company s treatment of a group of Filipino sailors amounts to slavery.
The three Filipino men had been working for Goundar Shipping for nearly two years on an inter-island ferry but say they were sacked recently after raising concerns about their working conditions.
They say Goundar reneged on a promise to fly them back home when their contracts were completed and now they have been abandoned without money for food and accommodation.
The Federation s inspector Sarah Maguire said not only has Goundar refused to send the men home it has also underpaid them.
