PITTSFIELD, Mass. Berkshire Community College (BCC) and Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) are working together as part of a new statewide effort to help teens who are homeless – those classified as unaccompanied homeless youth – enroll in college and earn the degrees prove to help people move beyond levels of poverty. The statewide initiative, piloted at various public community colleges and four year institutions across the Commonwealth, is called the Moving to College program. Adrian Ford, longtime Fitchburg civil rights activist, dies at 73
FITCHBURG A longtime Fitchburg civil rights and community activist, known for forming a network dedicated to racial equity, died Jan. 16.
Adrian Lamont Ford, 73, died suddenly after a brief illness. Ford founded the Fitchburg chapter of Three Pyramids Inc., a community-development corporation, in 1971 and became the CEO in 1972, a position he held until his death. Ford also co-founded the North Central Massachusetts Minority Coalition in 1992, a multicultural and multi-sector coalition dedicated to reaching racial, gender and economic equity in North Central Massachusetts.
Born Feb. 28, 1947 in New Castle, Pa., Ford moved to Fitchburg in 1966. Ford studied at Mount Wachusett Community College and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
About 500 members of the Massachusetts National Guard were deployed to Washington for Wednesday s inauguration of President Joe Biden.
Among them was Adams Police Sgt. Dylan Hicks, a first lieutenant who commands Alpha Company 1-181 IN, a light infantry company based out of Agawam.
Hicks, 28, didn t have much time to prepare after learning that his company would be headed to the Capitol to provide security at the inauguration. I had less than 24 hours to pack up and leave, said Hicks, who still is in Washington. Everyone was given different missions and tasks when arriving.
Alpha Company 1-181 IN is made up of mostly residents of Western Massachusetts and Berkshire County, which includes 2nd Lt. and Dalton native Emily Jordan.

Aidan Kierce, of Canton, was named to the dean s list for the fall semester at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. To qualify, a full-time degree seeking undergraduate student must take at least 12 credit hours and earn a 3.6 quality point average during the semester.
Colin Cochran, of Stoughton, was named to the dean s list for the fall semester at the College of William & Mary.
