The Fitzroy Frogs Triathlon Club is giving people the chance to get their Australia Day celebrations off to an early start.
The triathlon club will hold the âAlmost Australia Dayâ ocean swim at Emu Park Main Beach on Sunday.
Participants can take on 5km, 3km, 2km or 1km distances under the watchful eye of Emu Park surf lifesavers.
The event has been running on or around Australia Day for the past six years.
Frogs president Craig McCormack said it provided an âopportunityâ for people to experience an ocean swim in a supervised environment.
âOcean swimming can be quite daunting, and it is very hard to do on your own compared to going for a run or a bike ride,â he said.

Event co-ordinator Michelle Williamson was almost moved to tears by the response to the all-abilities aquathlon held as part of the Rockhampton Triathlon last year.
It was the first time it was included in the annual event, organised by the Fitzroy Frogs Triathlon Club, and it attracted about 25 competitors in late October.
Williamson is expecting that number to double when the triathlon, which also features women’s and junior categories, returns on February 28. Junior competitors get ready to dive into action at last year’s Rockhampton Triathlon. Photo: Jann Houley
“The trial all-abilities aquathlon was so fantastically received,” she said.
