Enrollment declines continue at community colleges; SUNY Schenectady, FMCC dropped 15 percent in fall

FMCC reporting steady enrollment numbers | News, Sports, Jobs

JOHNSTOWN Fulton-Montgomery Community College is reporting steady enrollment figures for the spring semester. The Board of Trustees heard a Student Affairs Committee report from Trustee William Easterly Thursday night. Easterly said the college had 1,223 students registered for the spring semester, with just over 800 full-time equivalent students. Figures from last year were unavailable. He said the “admissions team” at FMCC is excited about the figures. He also reported FMCC has conducted “total access visit days” for prospective students and their families. During the visits, all the usual COVID-19 safety measures were in place, he said. Appointments were made, although there has been some weather issues that slightly hampered the visits, he said.

Feb 2, 2021 Richard Mark Spraker,70, died January 20, 2021, in Dunnellon, Fla. from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Richard was born in Utica, N.Y. May 14, 1950. He attended Wheelerville Union Free School in Caroga Lake, N.Y. and graduated from Johnstown High School. He was active in track and football. He earned an associate’s degree from Fulton-Montgomery Community College, served in the National Guard and was a member of the Caroga Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. He was employed as a crew foreman for Rifenburg Construction in Troy, N.Y. He married and moved to Highland Village, Texas, where he was employed by the city of Highland village and was responsible for street maintenance and repair and also acted as construction and building inspector.
