Prof Ramesh Deosaran
Former chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) Prof Ramesh Deosaran is calling for clarity from the Ministry of National Security after he received a phone call purportedly from the ministry asking for a recommendation for a candidate for Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
But in response to questions from Newsday the minister, Stuart Young, said his ministry was not involved in the process.
In an e-mail sent to Newsday on Monday, Deosaran said a woman called him on the morning of December 30, saying she was calling from the Ministry of National Security, and asked him for a recommendation for one of the applicants for the three positions.

THE law is clear and a message must be sent that children are off limits when it comes to sexual activities.
And those who have any intention of engaging in such activities with minors, even if there is no resistance from the child, must cast it from their minds immediately and walk away.
So said Justice Hayden St Clair-Douglas yesterday during a virtual hearing as he imposed a sentence of nine yearsâ hard labour on a San Juan man who fathered three children with an under-age girl.
The first child was born in 2009 when the girl was just 13 years old. The second was born two years later, and the third when she was 18.
Trinidad steelpan tutor jailed for 9 years for relationship with student, 12
December 10, 2020
(Trinidad Guardian) A steelpan tutor who began a sexual relationship with a then 12-year-old student in 2009, which eventually resulted in three children, has been sentenced to nine years in prison.
Although Everton Joseph was convicted of six charges of having sex with a minor under the age of 14 earlier this year, he was only sentenced by High Court Judge Hayden St Clair-Douglas yesterday.
In passing the sentence, St Clair-Douglas noted that Joseph did not use violence towards the minor and that she did not resist his sexual advances after they met while she was learning to play the national instrument.
