PHUKET: A workers’ camp in Patong has been put under ‘Bubble and Seal’ isolation for one month after 13 workers there tested positive for COVID-19 as Phuket officials yesterday marked a record 38 local infections on one day, not including two Sandbox arrivals who were also recorded as testing positive yesterday (July 27).

PHUKET: Local health officials reported 23 more local infections across the island yesterday (July 26), bringing the total number of infections on the island since Apr 3 to 958 ‒ and the total number of local infections in the past seven days to 114.

The Phuket Provincial Public Health Office (PPHO) daily COVID situation report for yesterday also marked one new death attributed to COVID-19, the second COVID death marked in two days. So far 11 people in Phuket have died from COVID-19 since Apr 3.

PHUKET: All schools in Phuket are to remain closed until Aug 16, Central shopping mall has been closed for seven days for cleaning and all local markets must enforce four-square- metres per person social distancing under the latest order from provincial officials to try to curb the rise in infections across the island.

A Thai female tourist sneaked out of Phuket during the mandatory 14-day quarantine period under the Phuket sandbox .
Koosak Kookiatkul, Phuket Provincial Public Health Office director, said the woman had violated the sandbox rules, as she stayed only nine days in Phuket, before sneaking out of the province by plane to Bangkok and later to Chon Buri.
The office had contacted its Chon Buri counterpart to handle the matter and bring her back to the state quarantine facility in Phuket to serve the rest of her 14-day quarantine period. She was also charged with violation of quarantine regulations.
