JAMMU, July 28: J&K Sports Council in collaboration with Ad-hoc Committee of J&K Fencing Association organized day and night goodwill Fencing competition at Indoor Fencing Hall, MA Stadium, here today under the supervision of Ashok Singh, Divisional Sports Officer Jammu.
Rakesh Dubey, KAS officer was the chief guest of the event who inaugurated the championship, whereas Nuzhat Gul, Secretary J&K Sports Council was the guest of honour and Dr Zafar Iqbal was the special guest on the occasion.
Rashid Ahmed, convener Ad-hoc Committee briefed the dignitaries about the game of fencing and its growing popularity among the general masses and expressed his gratitude to the Council for granting State Centre of Excellence of Fencing at MA Stadium, here.

New Delhi [India], May 12 (ANI): Sabre fencer Bhavani Devi, who created history by becoming the first Indian fencer to qualify for the Olympic Games, on Wednesday said that she is looking forward to giving her best performance in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. It will be the first time when most of our country will watch fencing and will watch me play, so will give my best performance in front of them, she said at a media interaction facilitated by the Sports Authority of India.
By winning a quota through the Adjusted Official Ranking (AOR) method after the Budapest World Cup in March, the 27-year-old from Chennai marked a major milestone in a long journey. She had started her career by training with bamboo sticks. The sense of excitement on becoming the first fencer to represent India at the Olympics isn t lost on Bhavani.

New Delhi, April 24 : An eight-member national fencing team, which includes five players, left for Tashkent on Friday to compete in the Asian Olympic qualifiers.
The two-day tournament, which starts on Sunday, offers only six quota places, including three in the women s category, for the Tokyo Olympics. Bhavani Devi is the only Indian to have qualified for the Tokyo Olympics. She did it in the sabre event. It will be a challenging task for the Indian fencing team, said an official of the Fencing Association of India (FAI). Their performance in the previous Asian meet was not outstanding.

India s international sabre fencer Bhavani Devi has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics starting July 23 by virtue of improving her world ranking to 42, confirmed the Fencing Association of India.
The 27-year-old from Chennai is the first Indian fencer ever to make the cut for the Olympics. She qualified for the Games at the Budapest World Cup, an Olympic qualifying competition, on Sunday.
