The central government is in discussions with American pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and Moderna over their Covid-19 vaccines, said Dr VK Paul, member (health) of Niti Aayog. Approval to Pfizer and Moderna is under consideration, Paul said.

He informed that Pfizer has indicated its vaccines will likely be available in July.
This comes a day after government officials stated that if India enters into procurement deals with Pfizer, Moderna and J&J, then the vaccine supply will be further boosted. This will help the country realise its target of inoculating all adults by the end of the year.
The final agreement between the government and the American drug-maker on indemnity and procurement norms are still pending, though the two parties have arrived at an in-principle consensus, sources said.

New Delhi: In a move that is expected to smooth Pfizer and Moderna’s entry into the market, India’s top drug regulator on Tuesday exempted foreign-made COVD-19 vaccines from post-approval bridging trials in the country, if they are approved by certain health bodies.
Indian Express, companies such as Pfizer and Cipla have asked for these exemptions during negotiations to supply vaccines to the country. NEW DELHI: American pharmaceutical giant Pfizer on Wednesday informs the Central government that its Covid-19 vaccine is suitable for all aged 12 and above and can be stored at 2-8 degrees for over a month, according to the sources.
They (Pfizer and the Indian government) also discussed about the indemnity protection against liabilities and asked for relaxations in some clauses before the company brings its Covid-19 vaccines to India, the sources added.
The drugmaker is likely to supply 50 million Covid-19 vaccines to India in 2021, albeit with a few conditions, sources told ANI on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Moderna, another pharmaceutical giant in the US, sources said, is expecting to start manufacturing its Covid-19 vaccines in India following an analysis with Cipla, a pharmaceutical company based in Mumbai, among other Indian firms.
