Chilean fibre lines surge 62% in 2020 to reach over 40% of connections Wednesday 21 April 2021 | 10:47 CET | News The number of fixed internet accesses in Chile climbed 10.3 percent year on year to 3.8 million at the end of 2020, driven by a 62 percent surge in fibre-optic connections, according to the latest update from telecommunications regulator Subtel. The watchdog said over four in ten fixed broadband connections are now fibre-based, attributed in part to a growth in demand since the start of the Covid-19 crisis, prompted by home working and distance learning needs, as well as the Fibra Optica Nacional and Fibra Optica Austral state-back infrastructure projects.
