Transport Secretary Grant Shapps called Jaguar’s decision a “huge step for British car manufacturing”.
Under the plans, all Jaguar and Land Rover models will be offered with an electric powertrain by the end of the decade.

Land Rover will also launch six EV cars within the next five years with the first set to hit forecourts in 2024.
They believe at least two-thirds of all commercial vehicles will be for electric models by 2030.
The brand is set to launch their first fully-electric van, the Ford E-Transit in Spring next year.
The vehicle will be capable of up to 217 miles between charges but is set for a price tag of up to £36,000.
Mr Rowley said the changes have been made as the industry is “changing profoundly”.
