Woman accused of killing wants confession stricken

RIVERTON A woman accused of killing her husband with a knife in their Pavillion home on Christmas Eve has asked to have her confession removed from trial evidence.
Through her attorney, Bennilee Strock argued Tuesday that she had asked for a lawyer prior to her confession but didn’t get one.
According to arguments made during a Tuesday suppression hearing in Fremont County District Court, the following discussion occurred between Strock and Fremont County Sheriff’s Office detective Anthony Armstrong after the latter allowed her to review her Miranda rights at the Riverton-based Sh.
CAÑON CITY A Colorado Springs man accused of poaching in Fremont, Chaffee and Teller Counties faced punishment in court and a lifetime suspension of his hunting privileges.
Iniki Vike Kapu, 28, was sentenced to probation, six months jail and a $4,600 fine for illegal possession of a bighorn sheep during a sentencing hearing in Fremont County District Court last year. He also has been accused by Colorado Parks and Wildlife staff of illegally killing 12 deer and two turkeys in earlier cases in Teller and Chaffee Counties after an investigation was sparked by a citizen tip in October 2018.
Kapu’s serial poaching behavior last week resulted in his hunting privileges being permanently suspended. Because Colorado is a member of the Interstate Wildlife Violator Compact, the ban extends to 47 other states, according to a press release from Bill Vogrin, public information officer for Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

CAÑON CITY A Pueblo West woman accused of stealing more than $10,500 from the Canon City Home Depot store was sentenced Tuesday to two years probation.
Katie Viloria, 35, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft as part of a plea agreement presented in Fremont County District Court. Two other charges were dismissed.
During sentencing, Deputy District Attorney Aaron Pembleton said a large amount of theft took place over “quite a long time frame,” but Viloria does not have any criminal history.
“The people did not want her to have a deferred sentence but did not want to impact her life ongoing,” Pembleton said.
