As roughly half a foot of snow accumulated in parts of Frederick County, hundreds of people called 911 Wednesday, leading dispatchers to disperse a flurry of first responders to crashes and other snow-related incidents.
But while first responders may have had a tough day, some Fredericktonians found fun in the first snow of the season.
Local resident Doug Cooke, for instance, was spotted skiing on snow-covered streets downtown.
Cooke, who was venturing south on Carroll Street near the post office, said it was good conditions for skiing Wednesday because dry snow is better than wet snow. He hoped to get in at least four hours of skiing.

William and Judith Moore devoted much of their lives to fostering growth in young minds.
Bill was a retired high school math teacher and union activist. Judy retired from Girl Scouts, where she started out as a volunteer leader for her daughter Shannonâs Brownie troop.
Born in Massachusetts â but a California resident for many years â Judy met Bill while attending Hood College and student teaching. The couple married in 1966, raised three children and became grandparents to six. They were excited about the autumn chapter of their lives and planned to downsize their home.
Bill, 80, and Judy, 77, were found deceased in their Sabillasville home Dec. 4. Frederick County Sheriffâs Office said the official cause of death has yet to be determined, but preliminary investigation found carbon monoxide poisoning may have been a factor, according to spokesperson Todd Wivell.
