SPOKANE, Wash. More options are now available for kids looking to get a COVID-19 vaccine. The Martin Luther King Jr. Center in Spokane is offering shots to children 12 and older on Tuesday.
The community center has been hosting clinics since February. They have given out more than 1,400 doses to people and are pushing to grow this number.
According to the US Census Bureau, there are more than 335,000 Black people in Washington, as of July 2019. However, only about 80,000 have been fully vaccinated.
“We are trusted in the community, so if people are looking for a place like the MLK Center to get vaccinated then they can come here,” said Freda Gandy, the executive director of the center.
Chauvin’s conviction marks only the second known time a police officer has been convicted of murder in Minnesota, and the first time such a conviction has been won against a white officer who killed a Black man. The first murder conviction for a Minnesota officer was that of Mohamed Noor, a Somali officer convicted of third-degree murder and manslaughter in the shooting death of a Justine Ruszczyk Damond, a white woman.

Vaccine clinic to open in Spokane s East Central neighborhood

SPOKANE, Wash. Seniors living in Spokane s East Central neighborhood will have better access to the COVID-19 vaccine this week.
The MLK Center is hosting a vaccine clinic on Tuesday, Feb. 16. Around 125 doses will be available to seniors over the age of 65 and multigenerational family members over the age of 50.
The Spokane Regional Health District and Washington State University’s school of nursing will assist with the clinic. The clinic is part of an effort to make sure vaccines are distributed evenly throughout the region - including to communities of color.
