Additional accusers come forward in Sanger cop misconduct case, more expected

The number of women to come forward with misconduct allegations against Sanger Police officer and Corcoran resident J.D. Torrence has reached 12, with more women expected to testify soon, according to the Fresno County Sheriff s Office. According to Lt. Brandon Pursell, there are seven complaints against Torrence that constitute criminal allegations and another five for police misconduct. However, Pursell said those numbers will likely go up as more people have already reached out with additional testimonies. The initial complaint against Torrence was submitted to the Sanger Police Department — Police Chief Greg Garner then turned the investigation over to the FCSO to serve as an unbiased entity. Torrence was arrested last Wednesday on charges of sexual battery and unlawfully detaining a person.

Hanford Police arrest decorated Tulare County sheriff s deputy

A decorated deputy with the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office has been arrested on suspicion of rape by Hanford Police, according to police officials. Deputy Luis Araujo, who was arrested on Tuesday, received the Officer of the Year award from the Knights of Columbus in 2020 for work he did while serving at the Visalia substation.  Araujo is the second Officer of the Year recipient to be arrested in Hanford in the last two weeks. Last week, Visalia Police detective Samantha Adney was arrested on domestic abuse and DUI charges. Adney received the award in April. According to Lt. James Lutz, public information officer with the Hanford Police, it’s the department’s policy not to divulge details in domestic abuse cases.
