Charles City, IA – An early Tuesday morning house fire was caused by direct lightning strike.
The Charles City Fire Department responded to a 911 call at approximately 3:47am on Tuesday morning to 2198 Old Highway Road for a report of a lightning strike to a home.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke and flames visible from the roof.
According to Fire Chief Eric Whipple, the home is owned by Russell Bornstein, who is a 20-year C.C.F.D veteran firefighter.
The fire was mainly contained to the attic, with substantial smoke and water damage throughout the rest of the home.
Floyd County Sheriff’s Office officials need help in finding a man who is responsible for causing property damage on Saturday.
Officials said the man drove his car into a carport causing it to collapse. It happened around 1:20 p.m., near the 3000 Block on RT 2030 in the Frog Town Community of Printer.
The man left the house in a black-pickup truck.
