JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Sunday morning the Gateway vaccination site on the Northside is back to administering the Johnson and Johnson shots.
This is after an 11 day pause on the vaccine. The federal government has been investigating 15 out of nearly 8 million people who got the J&J shot that developed a highly unusual kind of blood clot.
All impacted were women, most under the age of 50. Three died, and seven remain hospitalized.
The Gateway Mall site just opened today and will be able to administer 3,000 J&J shots per day.
Health advisers to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention voted to recommend resuming the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. I think overall it s the right thing to do. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. Shots of the one-dose Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine might soon again be going into arms across Florida.
The state announced it expects to resume the use of the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine as soon as possible. U.S. health officials on Friday lifted an 11-day pause on vaccinations using the Johnson & Johnson product following reports of some people developing an extremely rare type of blood clot.
Fifteen cases were reported out of nearly 8 million people who received the vaccine, according to the Associated Press. All were women, most under the age of 50. Three people died while seven remain in the hospital.
The Johnson & Johnson vaccine will again be available in Florida as soon as possible.
The news came in a tweet Friday night by the state Division of Emergency Management s official Twitter account.
It comes after an 11-day pause put in place nationally after a rare blood clotting disorder was associated with the shot.
The Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention held a joint news conference Friday evening to announce they were again allowing U.S. distribution to the public of the J&J vaccine.
