Malawi govt to destroy 19, 610 doses of expired Covid-19 vaccines on Wednesday

The Malawi Government has disclosed that it will destroy 19, 610 doses of expired coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccines next Wednesday. These are part of the 102,000 doses, which Malawi received from the African Union (AU) on March 26, 2021. Dr Charles Mwansambo: Covid-19 vaccines are to be publicly destroyed Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr. Charles Mwansambo, said in a statement released on Friday that the vaccines had a short shelf life and expired on April 13, 2021. He stated that the incineration of these expired vaccines will be done at the Kamuzu Central Hospital incinerator from 10am, adding that the destruction of the doses will be in line with the laid down protocols by the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority, specifically on the disposal of medicines and biologicals.

Chanco admin block construction contract raises eye brows as stakeholders wants decision reversed

April 30, 2021 Alfred Chauwa - Nyasa Times 3 Comments “We will not allow dodgy people to be stealing from the people of Malawi disguising as contractors.” Controversy is hovering over Chancellor College (Chanco) after the higher learning institution’s Internal Procurement Committee awarded construction works of its administration block to a suspicious highest bidder. Nyasa Times has established that the contract to build an administration block at University of Malawi’s constituent college, Chanco, has been bizarrely awarded to Plem Company, a company embroidered in the K6.2 billion Covid funds over an established and contractor, Manobec, who were also the lowest bidder.

Reserve Bank seeks court intervention to manoeuvre contract award

The Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) has, under panic and intense pressure, appealed to the High Court on a case in which it awarded two contracts to a firm that never met its own set evaluation criteria. The bank is desperately asking court to review the decision made by the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA) in which the Central Bank was ordered to retender the award of Flexcube and ATS systems which it awarded to Mitra Systems Limited. But what is clear is that Mitra Systems Limited does not have the required skills and experience as per the evaluation criteria for the two tenders.
