The Oregon Health Authority said Thursday that the state is nearing 100,000 cases and 1,300 deaths from the virus.
Gov. Kate Brown extended the state of emergency for the COVID-19 pandemic for 60 more days on Thursday, Dec. 17, the same day that state health officials reported 1,339 additional cases and 21 more deaths from the virus.
The new Dec. 17 Oregon Health Authority figures raised the total cases to 98,936 and the death toll to 1,283. The declaration is the legal underpinning for Brown s COVID-19 executive orders and the OHA s health and safety guidance. As we near 100,000 cases of COVID-19 in Oregon, and with hospitals and health care workers stretched to their limits, there is no doubt that COVID-19 continues to pose a public health threat. We continue to lose too many Oregonians to this deadly disease, including over 100 reported deaths in the last two days, Brown said.
