New $231m loan approved for hydropower project in India

A loan worth $231 million (£170m) has been approved by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the construction of a hydropower plant in India.
It will support the development of the Lower Kopili Hydroelectric Power plant, with a total capacity of 120MW, in Central Assam.
The project will double the hydropower generation capacity of the Assam Power Generation Corporation.
It is the third and largest tranche of the $300 million (£221m) Assam Power Sector Investment Programme approved by the ADB in 2014.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a US$231 million loan for the construction of the Lower Kopili Hydroelectric Power (LKHEP) plant in Central Assam, India.
This loan is the third and largest tranche of the US$300 million Assam Power Sector Investment Programme approved by ADB in 2014. The project has so far upgraded the 70MW Lakwa gas project and improved distribution networks in the state.
The LKHEP plant will double the hydropower generation capacity of the Assam Power Generation Corporation Ltd (APGCL). It will harness water from the Kopili River to generate a total capacity of 120MW of electricity, particularly during peak demand periods.

Dima Hasao (Assam): The Centre and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed a loan of USD 231 million for the construction of 120 megawatts (MW) run-of-the-river hydroelectric project over Assam s Kopili river. The hydropower project on the Kopili river and Umrong stream, its tributary, is located in Assam s Dima Hasao district. It is scheduled to be commissioned by the year 2025.
