The community are experiencing harm online at rates never
seen before. Netsafe, New Zealand’s online safety
organisation, has revealed they have seen a 24 percent
increase in harmful digital communication reports compared
to the same timeframe the previous year.
“Our
experience is reflective of the wider online safety and
security community,” Martin Cocker, Netsafe CEO, says.
“Personal experiences of harmful digital communications
are on the rise, losses to cybercrime and scams continue to
mount, and surging levels of misinformation is undermining
trust across society.”
That is why Netsafe is
hosting New Zealand’s first ever online safety week.

Minister of Agriculture
The
Government is contributing $600,000 to help residents
affected by the weekend’s violent weather with recovery
efforts.
Acting Minister for Emergency Management Kris
Faafoi and Agriculture Minister Damien O’Connor have been
in the Buller district this afternoon to assess flood damage
and support the local response effort.
They have
announced an initial contribution of $300,000 towards a
Buller Mayoral Relief Fund and another $100,000 towards a
similar fund for Marlborough. Alongside that the event has
been classified a medium-scale adverse event, unlocking
another $200,000 for flood-affected farmers and growers
across the West Coast and Marlborough

There are no cases of COVID-19 to report in the community
in New Zealand today.
There are 10 cases of COVID-19
to report in recent returnees in managed isolation
facilities since the Ministry’s last update on Friday.
This includes three of the four Viking Bay mariners who
remain aboard the ship which is quarantined at Queens Wharf
in Wellington. Welfare and health checks are being carried
out daily, and plans are in place should any of them become
unwell.
There are a further two cases to report which
are deemed historical and not considered infectious. A

Leader
of the Opposition Judith Collins says the Government’s
approach to law and order is appalling, as she releases
National’s third billboard as part of its ‘Demand the
Debate’ campaign.
“The Government backing the
Mongrel Mob to rehabilitate people on meth over proven
organisations with no gang affiliation will make many New

The
rescue of a badly injured surfer off a remote beach near
Karekare has won Rescue of the Year at Surf Life Saving
Northern Region’s annual Awards of Excellence in Auckland
on Saturday (subs: 17 July).
The Award was presented
jointly to United North Piha Lifeguard Service (UNPLS) and
the Piha Paid Lifeguard Service whose lifeguards combined to
effect the rescue on 17 February this year.
