New Zealand’s leading insurance broker Aon has launched
a new service that enables construction contractors to
free up funds that would normally be retained in
trust during commercial
projects.
Traditionally, retention money
withheld under commercial construction contracts must be
held on trust in the form of cash, or other liquid assets
readily converted into cash, unless a complying instrument
is purchased.
Aon’s Retention Instrument is the
first fully compliant service available in New Zealand which
provides an alternative to holding subcontractor’s
retentions on trust, enabling those acting as head
contractors to legitimately use these funds within their

The opening of Ruakura Superhub moved a step closer today
as Tainui Group Holdings (TGH) outlined a start date and
building contractor for the first logistics facility, along
with naming the contractor to build two more local roads
within the 92-hectare stage one of the
development.
TGH Chief Executive Chris Joblin said the
announcements mark the start of a countdown to opening
Ruakura Superhub in mid-2022.

The need to drawdown retirement savings to generate a
reliable income has been proven by a new longitudinal study
from Massey University, according to the retirement income
company, Lifetime Retirement Income.
It says the
Massey study shows it is harder to fund retirement now than
it was four years ago for many people.
But the change
is not universal, and some retirees in large cities are
finding life a bit easier.
The information comes in
the latest report from the
NZ Fin-Ed centre at
Massey, led by Associate Professor Claire
Matthews.

Hawke’s Bay Hospital has postponed some elective
surgery and its restricted visiting policy remains in place
as RSV, (respiratory syncytial virus), presentations
continue in children and increase in adults.
Hawke’s
Bay Hospital currently has 27 children in its paediatric
ward, mostly with respiratory illness. Other acute areas
such as ICU and the Emergency Department remain very busy.
Only one infant was needing ICU level care,
today.
These numbers fluctuate continually as patients
are discharged and others admitted.

The Hamilton Kirikiriroa Medal, one of the city’s
highest accolades, was awarded to University of Waikato
ecologist Professor
Bruce Clarkson yesterday at Claudelands Events
Centre.
Since 2016, Professor Clarkson has led a
Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE)
funded research programme, People, Cities
and Nature, which focuses on restoring indigenous nature
in urban environments.
“Bruce is a huge treasure
to council - and a taonga for our city - because we can rely
on him for all the years of work he has done and the
expertise he has,” says Hamilton Mayor Paula Southgate,
who presented the medal.
