Rotary New Zealand World Community Service continues to
support the people of Fiji during their Covid Crisis,
affecting in the main the island of Veti Levu being the most
densely populated. Vulnerable communities most years in Fiji
deal with the aftermath of cyclones and flooding desperately
needing support to rebuild their homes and replace chattels.
Fiji has made great strides in recent years “building back
better” following these events. Covid is different as the
destruction has a greater impact on livelihoods due to loss
of jobs and income as borders are closed to their main

A group of Charles Upham Retirement Village residents are
working on a rush order of predator traps after the May 30
floods devastated a conservation initiative.
The
residents at the Ryman village in Rangiora have been
manufacturing hundreds of traps for Predator Free New
Zealand groups as well as the Department of Conservation for
conservation initiatives throughout Canterbury over the past
18 months.
They’re now working on a rush order of 80
traps for the Ashley-Rakahuri Rivercare Group, whose
conservation efforts were devastated by the May
floods.

The Commerce Commission has today released an open letter
to the fuel industry outlining the Commission’s role and
expectations of fuel businesses ahead of a new regulatory
regime taking effect on 11 August 2021.
The letter
comes after the Ministry of Business, Innovation and
Employment (MBIE) published regulations yesterday further
detailing the requirements on fuel businesses under the Fuel
Industry Act 2020.
Commission Chair Anna Rawlings said
the Commission is reaching out to businesses in the fuel
sector to discuss its enforcement and monitoring role under
the Act and to help them understand how the new rules apply
to them.

There are no cases of COVID-19 to report in the
community in New Zealand today.
There are no new cases
of COVID-19 to report in recent returnees in managed
isolation facilities since the Ministry’s update
yesterday.
Nine previously reported cases have now
recovered. The number of active cases in New Zealand is
32.
There is one new historical case to report. This
person arrived on 1 July from Russia, via United Arab
Emirates. They tested positive on day 3 during a routine
test and they are currently in a Wellington managed
isolation facility.
After an initial investigation,
this case has now been confirmed as a historical case which
