West Lothian schools are ready for the second stage in the phased return of pupils.
A CLYDEBANK teenager is in the running to be named Scotland’s Foundation Apprentice of the Year this week. Wiktoria Bak, a former pupil at St Peter the Apostle High School, is one of the finalists in the 2021 Scottish Apprenticeship Awards. The ceremony will be held virtually this Thursday, March 4. Wiktoria undertook a foundation apprenticeship in social services and healthcare, and is now studying for a BSc in paramedic science at the University of the West of Scotland. The 18-year-old, who undertook a work placement with West Dunbartonshire Council’s Working 4U team as part of her apprenticeship, also used her Polish background to build relationships with service users while working in a day care centre.

Wiktoria Bak, above, is passionate about mental health awareness and was able to discuss issues facing Scotland’s young people with the First Minister, thanks to her Foundation Apprenticeship.
Clydebank-based Wiktoria developed her confidence and communication skills during her work placement and learning with West Dunbartonshire Council Working4U as part of her Social Services and Healthcare Foundation Apprenticeship.
While working in a day-care centre, Wiktoria was able to translate for a Polish client that colleagues were struggling to communicate with. She drew upon her experiences working in the community when she met Nicola Sturgeon at an event in Glasgow.
