The Mid-Prairie boys soccer team puts their unbeaten mark on the line with a trip to Cascade tonight to take on the Cougars. Last time out, Mid-Prairie hammered No. 13 Columbus on the road 6-2 in CJ behind Owen Trimpe’s third hat trick of the season. For the year, Mid-Prairie is led by Trimpe with 11 goals, 10th most in class 1A. Ethan Trimpe leads the Hawks with six assists, ninth most in Iowa in 1A. Keaton Graber has made 12 saves on the season and has a 75% save percentage.

The chemistry of coffee

David Hurley quit his job as a science teacher at Cascade High School in Turner so he could take a position applying his knowledge of chemistry. Since September, he’s been the coffee roaster for Margin Coffee in downtown Albany. “It was a hard decision that I struggled with,” Hurley said. “But an opportunity like this doesn’t come by very often. I figured, ‘Let’s see where it goes.’” Hurley, a 2000 graduate of Jefferson High School, stressed that he loved teaching, but he also loves coffee.
