One county in New Jersey is urging high school and college seniors to get vaccinated against the novel coronavirus ahead of in-person graduation ceremonies.
Morris County and Atlantic Health System launched an initiative to urge students to schedule appointments at the Morris County Regional COVID-19 Vaccination Center at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall in Rockaway Township via the Atlantic Health System s website. We are grateful for the fast work of our county professionals who organized this important initiative in just a few days, Morris County Commissioner Director Stephen Shaw said. I also want to recognize the extensive expertise Atlantic Health System staff are bringing to the program as they insert appointments for these young men and women into the intricate operations at the busy vaccination center.

Morris County officials partnered with the Atlantic Health System and select school systems, and on Tuesday launched an initiative to encourage graduating high school and college seniors to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in time for in-person graduation ceremonies and family celebrations this spring.
The partners have operated a vaccination mega-site since Jan. 8 on the first floor of the former Sears store at the mall in Rockaway Township.
Morris County leads NJ in fully vaccinated residents 65 and older
Federal and state data shows that per capita, Morris County has the highest number of vaccinated senior citizens in New Jersey.
Since inoculation efforts were launched in January, 67% of county residents ages 65 and older have been fully vaccinated. Morris County is also the first among northern counties for vaccinating residents 18 and older.
“We are about two weeks away in Morris County from meeting the state goal of getting the equivalent of 75% of our population with at least their first shot,” said Morris County Commissioner John Krickus.
Overall, more than 420,000 vaccine doses have been administered at the county s vaccine mega-site in Rockaway or at hospitals, pharmacies, stores and medical offices in the area, according to state data.
Fairleigh Dickinson University is the latest in a string of schools to require all students to be fully vaccinated before the fall semester begins.
A letter from university President Christopher Capuano on Thursday explained that vaccines are the “key” to returning to an experience similar to the pre-pandemic one.
Both the Metropolitan campus in Teaneck and the Florham campus will require students to be fully vaccinated, meaning that two weeks have elapsed after the final injection of a vaccine. This is applicable to all students who will be on campus to live, attend classes or engage in any in-person activities, Capuano said.
