Wessex Water community grant funds wildlife garden on Portland

A CHARITABLE foundation has been able to award thousands of pounds to community groups across the county in a bid to support environmental projects. The Dorset Community Foundation, thanks to its partnership with Wessex Water, was able to grant more than £16,000 to grass roots groups across the county for projects aimed at improving the environment in their communities. The Wessex Water Environment Fund was launched with the community foundation by The Wessex Water Foundation, a multi-million-pound initiative, launched in June 2020, which provides a dedicated funding stream for projects across the region. Many local grass roots groups across Dorset have been hit hard by the pandemic and were excited to receive the extra funding.

Covid: Students and staff from Dorset schools isolate

AN INCREASE in Covid cases is causing disruption in the final week of the school year with proms cancelled and pupils and staff having to self-isolate. Most Dorset schools are scheduled to break up for the summer holidays on Friday but the final week of school, which is traditionally reserved for sports days, summer fêtes and other events, has been one of disappointment for many students and teachers amid rising coronavirus cases. Organisers of the proms at Weymouth s Budmouth Academy have decided to postpone all three of the planned events - which were for Year 11 (class of 2021), Year 11 (class of 2020), and Year 13 - which were scheduled for today, tomorrow and Friday at the sailing academy.
