Image Source: IANS News Chennai, April 9 : The fourth 1,000 MW atomic power plant coming up in Tamil Nadu s Tirunelveli districtattained a milestone with the installation of core catcher or core melt localisation device, said Russian company Rosatom. Russia s integrated nuclear power player Rosatom on Friday said the core melt localisation device, or core catcher, has been installed in the design position under the reactor pit of power unit 4 of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) which under construction. The reactor is of VVER-1000 design, similar to the two 1,000 MW units that have started commercial power generation long back.

BHEL lowest bidder for fleet mode NPCIL tenders ANI | Updated: Mar 17, 2021 18:04 IST New Delhi [India], Mar 17 (ANI): In an open competitive bidding process, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has emerged as the lowest bidder (Rs 10,800 crore) for fleet mode tender floated by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) for the 6x700 MW turbine island package projects. BHEL has thus retained its market leadership position of being the sole Indian supplier of nuclear steam turbines. Pressurised heavy water reactors (PHWRs) are the mainstay of the Indian nuclear power programme and 12 out of 18 operating PHWRs of NPCIL are equipped with BHEL-supplied steam turbine generator sets with the balance from Canada and Ukraine.
