Under the Higher Education Capital Matching Grant Program, or HECap, colleges have to match $3 for every $1 of state funding. The grants are targeted to “attract and train people for health sciences jobs”, Governor Andrew Cuomo said in a press release.
According to a 2019 Clarkson press release, three alumni made “leadership gifts” to help renovate the Science Center, which was built in 1969.

ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Ithaca College is set to receive funding from the state for construction and renovation to the facilities that will house its new graduate studies program.
The $1.6 million comes as part of the Higher Education Capital Matching Grant Program. These awards support projects across the state providing increased training in health sciences career.
Ithaca College will use its award for work on facilities to house a new graduate program for Physician Assistants.
The funding comes as New York works to rebuild after the Covid-19 pandemic with investments targeted at creating jobs and higher education opportunities in the health care field.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced $57.2 million in grants for capital projects at 35 colleges and universities across New York State through the Higher Education Capital Matching Grant Program. These HECap awards support projects that provide increased training in health sciences through construction of new laboratory and research spaces, the purchase of new instructional technologies and medical equipment, and a variety of other capital investments and improvements. This funding comes at a critical time as New York rebuilds following the pandemic with investments targeted to create jobs and opportunities in higher education and health care.
