I ll Drastically Deal With Dwellers At Ramsar Sites In The City - Henry Quartey

  Hon. Henry Quartey, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, has condemned the erecting of buildings along Ramsar site in the country. A Ramsar site is a wetland site designated to be of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. In ordinary terms, a Ramsar site is a waterprone area reserved to avoid national hazards like floods. Research indicates the Government of Ghana recently declared five coastal wetlands to be Ramsar sites. The sites are Muni-Pomadze, Densu Delta, Sakumono, Songor and Keta. In an interview with host Kwami Sefa Kayi on  Peace FM s  Kokrokoo programme, the Minister revealed that about 2,000 houses have been built within areas earmarked as Ramsar sites, hence posing threats to the city and its dwellers.

Accra To Embark On Massive Clean-up Exercise Tomorrow - Regional Minister Announces

Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey has announced a massive clean-up exercise in the Region tomorrow. The clean-up, which will be held on Thursday, April 22, is aimed at keeping the Capital City neat and clean. The exercise will be conducted in places like Nima, Asylum Down among other areas. Speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi on  Peace FM s  Kokrokoo programme, the Minister explained that the exercise feeds into his bigger picture of making Accra work again by setting the Capital City as an example to other cities and towns in the country. The Minister pledged his full commitment to the course in hope to make the residents adopt the attitude of practicing good hygiene and also all bad habits.

The exercise, which will soon be extended to the Ritz Junction and the Atomic Junction, will help enhance the flora beautification and improve the traffic situation in the area. Observations The Daily Graphic, during an inspection tour with the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Henry Quartey, yesterday, observed that the open spaces which used to be occupied by traders and hawkers had been converted into nicely fenced gardens, with the installation of some street lights to brighten the area during the dark hours.

Illegal billboards in Gt Accra to go down - RCC, advertising association get tough

705 The Advertising Association of Ghana (AAG) is collaborating with the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to pull down billboards mounted in Accra without authorisation. The exercise is to make lawfully placed advertising boards more visible and to ensure sanity along the streets. The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Henry Quartey, made this known last Wednesday when the association presented to him a 2018 audit report on billboards in Accra. The report touched on the influx of unauthorised billboards scattered across streets in Accra, and considered to be endangering lives and creating clutter. Accra situation The Daily Graphic reported recently that streets in Accra were awash with billboards and other outdoor advertisements, endangering lives and creating clutter along the roads, including some ceremonial streets.
