A webinar on the topic was held Tuesday and was hosted by Jennifer Walsh, executive director of The Greater Cumberland Committee. The event was part of the TGCC Zoom Speaker Series on clean energy. The incubator and testing center will be located in the Allegany Business Center on the FSU campus. The project is being led by Len Jornlin, CEO of Optimize Renewables of Hagerstown, a firm with decades of experience in designing and installing renewable energy systems around the globe.

Hershey receives Rural Champion Award

ANNAPOLIS — State Sen. Stephen S. Hershey Jr. has been named a “rural champion” by the Rural Maryland Council. According to a news release, the RMC and its membership convened by teleconference on Dec. 2 for its executive board meeting and Rural Impacts Award ceremony. This annual event provides an overview of upcoming events and activities for 2021 and honors advocates for rural Maryland communities, the release states. “After one year as Chair of the RMC, I have met so many more people that support the mission of the Rural Maryland Council. I was humbled to present these awards to some of our most caring citizens,” said John Hartline.

County United Way director Juli McCoy takes helm of Chamber

Mineral Daily News-Tribune CUMBERLAND – County United Way executive director Juli McCoy is stepping down after accepting the position of executive director of the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber announced the appointment during their annual meeting on Thursday. McCoy has been with United Way since 2014, first serving as finance manager until 2017 when she was appointed as executive director. “I have a deep commitment to the work of United Way. The organization plays a vital role across the region, not only to provide program funding, but to partner and collaborate with dozens of agencies to improve the communities we serve at the foundation – its people,” McCoy said. “My heart is entrenched in the mission and they will have my continued support.”
