Annual conomic development plan presented to Columbus City Council

Courtesy-CEDC FB page COLUMBUS, Ind. – The president of the Greater Columbus Economic Development Corporation (CEDC), Jason Hester, presented his group’s annual report to Columbus City Council on Tuesday evening. He began by speaking of typical activities of recent years when the corporation would focus on diversifying economic expansion into such areas as pharmaceutical manufacturing, aerospace and defense, and cybersecurity. CEDC’s strategy included participation in trade shows, outreach to site selectors, and international travel. “Last year, all that came to halt,” said Hester. Creative alternatives in 2020 were a webinar the corporation hosted featuring international speakers and also a promotional package sent to 150 top targets. The package was called a Magic Mailer.

Bartholomew County okays economic development commssion

Courtesy-bartholomew.in.gov COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Council met Tuesday evening and approved the creation of a county economic development commission to work in tandem with the Columbus Redevelopment Commission in bringing new business activity to the county. Jason Hester, president of the Greater Columbus Economic Development Corporation (GCEDC), told the council that such a body was necessary in order to issue TIF anticipation bonds that could entice businesses to locate facilities in Bartholomew County. He said GCEDC hosted four site visits in 2020, despite the pandemic dampening economic activity. Appointments to the county’s redevelopment commission will be decided at a later date.

Beverage provider selects Indiana for Midwest HQ, production facility

Marketplace: Greater Columbus EDC recognized Hester AngelaJackson Greater Columbus Economic Development Corporation (EDC) was recently recognized for outstanding investment attraction strategies focused on support of intelligent manufacturing. The recognition was given by U.S. Department of Commerce Assistant Secretary for Global Markets, Ian Steff, at the department’s annual Discover Global Markets conference held virtually this year in Indianapolis, Oct. 7-9. Fourteen separate companies and economic development organizations from around the nation were honored for their utilization or support of intelligent manufacturing. A formal presentation from the Department of Commerce’s SelectUSA program was held virtually on Dec. 4, with SelectUSA Acting Director, Ms. Dina Beaumont, delivering remarks.
