STURGIS, S.D. Monument Health Sturgis Hospital’s renovated emergency department is officially opening its doors.
The multi-year project was a complete overhaul of the emergency department, adding space, private rooms, and updates to furnishings and fixtures. There are also tech enhancements for staff, a Behavioral Health safe room, and a negative airflow system. The $1.2 million construction project took a little over six months.
The new space is a significant improvement over the old narrow hallway system which will provide more space during busier times, like the Sturgis Rally.
“This new space will really give us a little more elbow room,” said Mark Schulte, the market president of Monument Health Sturgis Hospital and Clinics. “We get really busy when we’re in the midst of the Sturgis Rally. And this space will really help enhance really what we provide is world class care during the Rally to people from, as we know, all over the worl
