Minnesota DEED provides grant to Greater Bemidji as part of start-up program
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development awarded more than $60,000 to Greater Bemidji Economic Development to support small business creation through its Launch Minnesota program.

BEMIDJI The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development awarded $450,000 to six organizations across the state to continue supporting start-up businesses.
The effort is part of DEED s Launch Minnesota initiative which was established to improve entrepreneurship for the state. As part of the program, DEED is working with regional organizations to assist in the work.
New program asks telecommuters to live locally, work globally

BEMIDJI Digital platforms in the age of the coronavirus pandemic have allowed workers at businesses from across the globe to set up shop wherever they call home.
On Monday, a new local program was launched to encourage workers to make their home in Bemidji.
The initiative, titled 218 Relocate, is a relocation incentive program created by Greater Bemidji Economic Development inviting professionals who telecommute to the area. According to the organization s Assistant Director Erin Echternach, the concept was based on the increase of people working from home last year.

BEMIDJI Discussions about a new wellness center and the future of Bemidji s Rail Corridor were both reviewed at a City Council work session Monday.
The corridor is located south of the city s downtown, extending from Park Avenue Northwest to land near the Mississippi River. Bordered by existing rail lines, the land has been in the city s possession since 2003, when it purchased the area for utility work.
New year, same faces for Beltrami County board
Incumbent victors of the 2020 Beltrami election were sworn in Tuesday night during the Board of Commissioners first meeting in the new year. Second Gifts of Hope campaign was a huge success

BEMIDJI The Gifts of Hope program returned in December and once again, it was a success.
After a solid run in spring, the Bemidji Alliance brought back the Gifts of Hope campaign to assist hospitality businesses that were closed because of Gov. Tim Walz s shutdown efforts to mitigate the coronavirus. The first campaign ran in the spring months and made $40 gift cards to local businesses available at a $20 cost, with the program covering the rest.
