The musicians of Northern Valley Youth Orchestras will perform on Sunday March 14, in the Alerus Center, in a recorded format. The performance will be available for public viewing and listening at a later date. The two NVYO student symphony orchestras will perform symphonic masterpieces new and old, centered around the “Innovate” theme, including two world premieres, one of which was commissioned by NVYO to celebrate its 10th performance season. Concert viewing online will be available free on the NVYO Facebook and Youtube channels, with freewill donations appreciated.

Alerus Center reaches 20-year mark in Grand Forks

The Alerus Center, which opened in February 2001, has hit the 20-year mark in offering the greater Grand Forks Community entertainment options, as well as being an economic driver for the region.
Over the course of its 20-year history, the Alerus Center has hosted a wide variety of events including weddings, UND athletic games, commencements, conventions, family shows and meetings. Since opening the doors in 2001, the building has welcomed more than 5 million visitors at over 7,000 events.

It wasn’t a record but the month of January was a warm one for the Greater Grand Forks area.
At the Grand Forks International Airport the average temperature was 17.5 degrees – which is 10.8 degrees above normal. This ranks as the 3rd warmest average January temperature on record. At the NWS office the average temperature ranked as the 5th warmest average January temperature on record. Only six days in the month had temperatures below average with the rest of the month warmer than average.
Precipitation for the month was below normal. Snowfall at the GFK measured just 3.3 inches – or 7.4 inches below normal.

Spectra Venue Management, the firm which runs the Alerus Center, is presenting the “Saving Our Jobs Virtual Comedy Festival,” with live comedy performances from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day.
Tickets, which may be purchased here, are $20 to watch live on Feb. 14 or $40 to watch the show on demand for up to one year.
Comedians from throughout the United States and Canada are participating in the festival. They include Adam Yenser, Emmy Award-winning comedy writer for The Ellen DeGeneres Show; Alex Elkin, iTunes No. 6 Comedian; Just Rupple, who is seen on Black Entertainment Television’s “One Mic Stand; Ron Josol, who’s appeared on Kevin Hart’s “Laugh Out Loud; and Tashona Smith, whom The New York Times has called “charming, tantalizing … confusing.”
